EU Announces €30B Drive to Develop Gigawatt-Class AI Facilities
The European Union is stepping up its game in the global AI race with a massive €30 billion plan to build a network of gigawatt-scale AI data centers — each capable of housing over 100,000 GPUs.
The program kicks off with €10 billion funding for the first 13 facilities, followed by €20 billion reserved for even larger deployments. The goal: boost Europe’s AI infrastructure to rival the U.S. and China.
Interest is high — 76 proposals have already been submitted from 16 member states. The first flagship site is set to launch in Munich, September 2025.
While challenges remain in upgrading energy grids and ensuring sustainability, the initiative is expected to spark major opportunities in:
Sustainable engineering & power systems
Modular, scalable data center design
Green infrastructure & large-scale project management
Europe’s message is clear: it’s ready to power the next wave of AI innovation with world-class infrastructure.
